Ranking the Films of 2018: Part One
Oscars week is here, and now that all of the nominees have been viewed it’s time to look back at the cinematic year that was. Per tradition, laid out slightly over 365 days ago, every feature I watched in 2018 will get some attention, from an unusually strong year for mainstream studio releases to another excellent, though overall down release slate for independent titles.
I've split the 232 new releases I saw over that span — up 24 from last year! — into five groups, sorted chronologically from worst to best, and will continue the countdown each day this week until we reach #1. If you're so moved (especially seeing as numerous critics have some of the first titles mentioned here in their Top 10 lists), please comment at the end of the post and I'll be glad to discuss my rankings with you there.
