The next Asheville Movie Guys event will be at 7 p.m. on Monday, June 15, featuring a virtual discussion of "Molly's Game." Aaron Sorkin's fact-based film stars Jessica Chastain as Molly Bloom — a former Olympic-class skier who ran the world's most exclusive high-stakes poker game for a decade — and Idris Elba ("The Wire") as her attorney.
Everyone is welcome to watch the film on Netflix, or rent it via Amazon, iTunes, or other digital platforms prior to the event, then join us for the discussion, which will take place via a Facebook Live video feed from the Asheville Movie Guys' Facebook page. Bruce Steele and Edwin Arnaudin of Asheville Movies.com will do their usual post-screening discussion, including behind-the-scenes details on the making of the film, then open the (digital) floor for attendees to respond. Questions may be submitted by comment within Facebook or via email to ashevillemovies@gmail.com.
There is no charge for this event. Patrons are encouraged to consider making a one-time donation of $5 or more to event co-sponsor Mountain Xpress at https://mountainx.com/community-supported-journalism to keep the paper's movie review section going while theaters are closed. No purchase is required, but those who do give are asked to click the "I enjoy reading the movie reviews" box to help track donations.
The Movie Guys plan to offer live-streamed discussions every couple of weeks until the Fine Arts Theatre reopens. Please join us on June 15 and check back for details on future events.
